Make with: Paper

Paper is so readily available and versatile, making it the perfect material for making on a whim: foldrollengineer, or sculpt it, or go big with a paper clone, giant head, or fashionable dresses!

Try Picnic Geometry (vintage Make: 2006)

paper geometryDiscover the sometimes elusive “M” in STEAM with paper sculpture. In the first picnic geometry activity, paper plates are folded and stapled to create an icosahedron. This is a little tricky, so you may want to watch the video, or start with a smaller platonic solid, like a cube or tetrahedron. You can also use this technique to make large, lightweight, and inexpensive free-form sculptures.

f.lux™ software to make your life better

Just found this…

Ever notice how people texting at night have that eerie blue glow? Or wake up ready to write down the Next Great Idea, and get blinded by your computer screen? During the day, computer screens look good—they’re designed to look like the sun. But, at 9PM, 10PM, or 3AM, you probably shouldn’t be looking at the sun. f.lux fixes this: it makes the color of your computer’s display adapt to the time of day, warm at night and like sunlight during the day.” Just Get f.lux

The Stanford University Learning Locomotion Project

The Stanford University Learning Locomotion Project.

Legged robots, unlike wheeled robots, have the potential to access nearly all of the earth’s land mass, enabling robotic applications in areas where they are currently infeasible. However, the current control software for legged robots is quite limited, and does not let them realize this potential.

In the Learning Locomotion project, we seek to develop software that significantly advances the state of the art in robotic quadruped locomotion over rough terrain. To achieve this goal, we develop and apply novel control and machine learning algorithms.
